Ünal Ünalan

Born in 1975 in Şarkışla (Sivas), Ünal Ünalan studied at the Şarkışla Imam-Hatip School before graduating from Uludağ University’s Faculty of Theology.

He pursued Turkish classical music at the Bursa Metropolitan Municipality Conservatory and has lived in Germany since 2002, serving within the IGMG’s cultural units.

Ünalan studied the Rika, Sülüs, Nesih and Celî sülüs scripts through correspondence and in-person sessions, receiving his ijazah from calligrapher Mustafa Cemil Efe. His works are present in Australia, Uzbekistan, Turkey and across Europe, and he continues advanced studies with calligrapher Ömer Yıldız.

In 2025 he joined the Turkish Ministry of Culture’s roster of Intangible Cultural Heritage bearers, continuing to teach Hüsn-i Hat at Sabah Ülkesi Culture & Art Association while presiding over the organisation and leading the IGMG Culture & Art department.
