Reading circle session on Tolstoy

What Men Live By

The fifth author in the series was the Russian classic Leo Tolstoy. Born in 1828, Tolstoy dedicated his life to exploring moral and social questions. His collection What Men Live By includes six short stories that highlight compassion, humility and the search for meaning.

Each story is like a snapshot of daily life, and the carefully selected dialogues of the characters take the reader to the Russian villages of that era. The work addresses philosophical and moral questions such as: humans live by love, what do humans need, and what is happiness?
