Murat Çakmaz

Murat Çakmaz

Murat Çakmaz is among the few musicians in Europe who master the ney and duduk. Growing up in a musical family, he began with clarinet and saxophone but found his calling in the ney at the age of 14.

He studied with Behzat Tekbilek and Ömer Erdoğdular, developing classical Ottoman and Sufi repertoire. Leaving his business and sociotherapy studies to focus on music, he has performed internationally, collaborating with orchestras such as the Wuppertal Symphony, Berlin Philharmonic, Hamburg Philharmonic and Istanbul State Symphony.

Çakmaz also performs on the duduk and occasionally as a vocalist. Frequently invited to radio and television programmes (WDR, ARD, ZDF, NDR, ARTE, TRT, BBC and more), he continues to share Ottoman and Sufi music with diverse audiences.
