Hilal T. Alphan

Hilal T. Alphan was born in Istanbul in 1994. In 2014 she began training in Traditional Turkish Arts at Mimar Sinan Fine Arts University, specialising in tile design and restoration.

During her studies she attended courses in marbling, calligraphy, illumination, miniature painting, bookbinding and carpet patterns. She studied marbling with Hikmet Barutçugil and continued under Ahmed Sacit Açıkgözoğlu after receiving an ijazah from Sadrettin Özçimi at the Sünbül Efendi Ebrîhane in Istanbul.

Since graduating in 2019 she has pursued a master’s degree in tile design and restoration, participated in exhibitions and competitions in Turkey and abroad, and has taught workshops in tile, marbling and illumination. She has lived in Germany for two years, teaching Turkish decorative arts.
