The expression 'Ya' is an invocation, a call.
It means the Protector and Guardian, the Preserver. It means that nothing, not even as much as an atom, is outside His watch and that He maintains nature in balance.
The concept of Hıfz appears in the Holy Quran in forty places, thirteen of which are attributed to Allah, four to angels, six to prophets, one to "kitab" in the sense of divine knowledge or the Preserved Tablet, and the others to humans.
Abu Mansur al-Maturidi preferred for hafiz the meaning that nothing, however hidden and imperceptible it may be, remains hidden from Allah, that He overlooks nothing, and that He will certainly give the reward for deeds. (Ta'wilat al-Quran)
